VSTEP was founded in 2002 by four experienced entrepreneurs. The company is headquartered in Rotterdam. VSTEP has 30 staff members and an extensive network of value-added subcontractors. Since its founding, VSTEP has successful completed over 30 training projects and as a result has taken a leading position in the European serious games industry. In 2005, Fortis Venturing became a shareholder in VSTEP to accelerate growth. Day-to-day management is done by: Cristijn du Marchie Sarvaas, Managing Director Cristijn has 17 years experience in consulting, venture capital and entrepreneurship in the area of new technology. Prior to VSTEP, founded and managed the Amsterdam offices of Antfactory, a $600m technology investment company, was senior consultant with Monitor Company, a US Strategy consulting firm, founded his own technology marketing company and worked for Price Waterhouse's IT Consulting group. Cristijn has an MBA from Nijenrode Univeristy. Pjotr van Schothorst, Technical Director Pjotr has 18 years experience with Shell and owns companies in the development of innovative commercial applications based on computer-gaming technology. While working for Shell for 12 years, Pjotr initiated the innovative SimShell project that pioneered the creation of business applications using gaming technology. Pjotr brings to VSTEP extensive knowledge of virtual reality technology and experience in creating meaningful business applications. As a frontrunner in this field, Pjotr is a frequent speaker at Serious Games conferences around the world. Pjotr has an Engineering degree from Delft University.
